Bear scientist Wes Larson has made a career of working with animals and is now studying in wildlife conservation, a.k.a. hanging with furry creatures. While working to protect endangered animals, he’s also raising an orphaned raccoon named Pants. His account is filled with snaps of him cozying up to bears, raccoons, whales, chickens, parrots, giraffes and more.
“My whole life, I’ve been interested in wildlife,” he told IG World Blog. “When I graduated college, I got sucked into the idea that I needed to make a lot of money. But I eventually decided to do what I was passionate about.”
He decided to leave optometry school and study biology. He has worked with the Southern Beaufort Sea population of polar bears in Alaska for three years, raccording to Polar Bears International.
Check out some pictures from his wild adventures.
Only put out one extra collar this year and I put it on this beautiful little bear that I had caught last year as a cub and recaught this summer. Anxious to see how she’s doing when I do den visits this winter. Following a bear like this through different stages of its life not only gives me great data, but it also really endears the bear to me, and she’s definitely my favorite. Ps. She’s the same bear as the one in my profile pic, just a year later.
Back when @thethriftstorecowboy did his best to break Cricket. Luckily I was rewarding her with chicken nuggets back home.
“Why don’t you post more pictures with cute girls?” -text from my mom this morning. This might be a girl?
Probably done doing dens and I’ve been generally happy for a month now because of the five cubs that our study bears had this winter (not to mention how fat and healthy all of the adults were). It’s the closest I’ve ever come to feeling like an uncle. Photo: @wasatchandy
Headed to Alaska for 16 days and I’m bummed to be leaving this little ball of fur, claws, and parasites behind. Just so everyone knows, raccoons can carry and transmit a potentially brain-eating, coma inducing parasite. And rabies. Just FYI.
One year older and feeling way good about the family and friends in my life this year, both human and otherwise.
It’s hot and one of us fell out of a tree yesterday.
Went to work, met a fox, took a nap. 📷/ fox mom @cestalyne
