A dog was rescued by Italian firefighters after it was buried alive in one of Italy’s worst earthquakes in decades

Rescuers spotted the animal’s legs poking out of the rubble as they were clearing a collapsed building in the quake-hit town of Norcia.

Remarkably the dog survived the 6.6-magnitude tremor, which struck on Sunday morning, and was carefully lifted to safety by Italian firefighters before lapping up some water.

Footage shows the dog’s legs sticking out between gaps in the rubble.

Rescuers can be seen carefully removing rocks from around the animal until its face is visible.

The dog is finally freed before firefighters comfort the animal and bring it some water.
