Apple iPhone 4 lost in an icy lake was discovered by a treasure hunter after over a year, and it still manages to work
After Michael Guntrum dropped his iPhone 4 in Kyle Lake in Pennsylvania, he though that he would never see it again, but Daniel Kalgren stumbled upon the phone while on a treasure hunt in the (now drained) lake found the phone under 6 inches of mud – and the phone is still works.
Talking to Buzzfeed News, Guntrum said that he had lost his phone while on an ice fishing trip with his friends, after it fell from his lap and slipped into the frozen lake through a hole in the ice. Guntrum’s Facebook post from March 7, 2015 tells us that the phone was lost more than a year before it was discovered by Kalgren.
Kalgren found the iPhone 4 (the only treasure he found that day) encapsuled in a OtterBox iPhone 4 case, which he cleaned and then put in rice. After he charged the device, Kalgren found that the phone turned on. The image of the device he shared with Buzzfeed shows the phone (with stained edges) charging to 100 per cent, with the screen damage on the edges.
