Best apps to download for your new iPhone XS or XR
You’ve managed to get your hands on a new iPhone XR or iPhone XS, and now you want cool apps to run on your new smartphone.
Blue Dot magazine staff picked some of our favorite apps that show off the power of Apple’s new phones.
The list is focused on best-known software that we use and love; if you’re looking for the most important downloaded apps — think Facebook, Snapchat, Google Maps, Instagram
The Citizen app
The Citizen app notifies you when a crime or other major incident is reported to 911 near you. It allows for the live-streaming of incidents, giving you complete transparency of your neighborhood around you.
Moment will show us just how true that statement may be. Designed to promote a healthier balance between our real lives and those lived through the small screens of our digital devices, Moment tracks how much you use your phone each day, helps you create daily limits on that usage, and offers “occasional nudges” when you’re approaching those limits.
There’s also a bonus function in the app related to whether or not we’re putting our phone down in favor of going out on the town, so to speak – Moment can also optionally track where you’ve been throughout the day.
The MINDBODY App now gives people easier access to their favorite studios, spas and salons with combined class lists, improved appointment booking and easy-to-use filters. The app also makes it easier to explore new workouts, manage a flexible routine and gain access to an unparalleled variety of activities. If you’re studying a language, no doubt you’ve heard of Duolingo, which is the best free program you’ll find. Google Translate App
Google Translate is one of the handiest apps to have on your iPhone. It translates words you speak, or type, into the app, with support for more than 100 languages, and also lets you download specific languages (though not quite all of them) for offline translation. But the reason we love Google Translate is because it features one of our favourite app features ever made (and still does it better than most of the apps that have copied it since): Word Lens. With Word Lens you point the iPhone camera at a sign and watch it translated in front of your eyes.
